WHAT ABOUT ME?
Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way (Luke 6:26 NASB)
Most people want to be respected and identified as having done something special or achieved some level of greatness. We see this from the thug who will celebrate going to jail in order to beef up his street reputation to the state representative who’s jockeying for the cameras in order to attain national recognition. People are grasping for acknowledgement.
Often times in ministry I find it necessary to do without help, because some help demands perpetual public recognition. Either we’re going to get the credit or God’s gonna get the glory.
We must understand that it isn’t about us! This need for attention can be the antithesis of Christianity.
The bible says “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve” (Colossians 3:23, 24).
So, let’s stop looking for glory and honor from men. Besides, God has already provided all the glory we will ever need.
28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. …. and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.
